Barbara Jean Bishop

Barbara Jean Bishop, 75 year old Yreka resident, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the Madrone Hospice House in Yreka.

Barbara was born December 1, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa to Lawrence and Minnie Simpson. She was raised in Atlanta, Georgia and attended Russell High School in East Point, Georgia. She was married in Atlanta in 1954 and had four children. After living in Newhall, Calif., she moved to Siskiyou County 30 years ago. After a 20 year career as a computer consultant, in her retirement, she enjoyed writing poems and children’s stories and collecting antiques. Barbara, mostly known as Nannie, loved spending time with her grandchildren, telling them amazing stories of her travels and adventures.

Barbara is survived by three children and their spouses, Tony and Kathy Bishop, Brian and Kim Bishop and Melinda and Michael Willis; a sister, Gwen Manus; nine grandchildren, Toni Lynn, Ben, Megan, Kari, Justin, Cael, Bethany, Brianna and Abby and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Clay.

A memorial service will be held celebrating her life at a later date to be announced.
