Edward Earl Lawrence, 84 of Yreka, passed away at the Madrone Hospice House on February 24, 2013 with his good friend, Fred Solus, at his side.
Ed was born August 9, 1928 to Joseph and Mary Lawrence. He grew up in Montague and Yreka and graduated from Yreka High School in 1948. After his service in the United States Marine Corps, Ed returned to Yreka and married Betty Jeane Davenport in 1950. Ed and Jeane had two children, Robyn, born in 1953 and Kim, born in 1954.
Ed supported his family by driving truck and later opened and operated Siskiyou Tire, where he sold new and recapped tires throughout Siskiyou County. He sold that business in the late 1960's and returned to truck driving with Yreka Western Railroad, PIE, LASME and TIME DC until a heart attack in 1972 ended his driving career.
Ed was a master craftsman, skilled in carpentry and metal work. He hand-built over 100 “Portagee Canopy’s” and his metal work was even more impressive. All of his hitches, fences and gates displayed his incredible talent.
Eddie’s favorite hobby was buck hunting in Colorado, making the yearly trip since 1962. He and his fellow hunters enjoyed these trips more than anything, and they would talk about the trip and plan for the next as soon as they returned.
Ed leaves behind his girl friend of 30 years Pat Grieb; his brother Bud Lawrence; his son Kim Lawrence; a granddaughter Stephanie Lawrence, and a great grandson Damani Parker. Ed was preceded in death by his daughter Robyn Lawrence in 2006.
By Ed’s request no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to your favorite charity or to Madrone Hospice, 255 Collier Circle, Yreka, CA 96097.
